While Smithson, Ana Mendieta and other famous earth artists made beautiful and meaningful works of art, Mother nature is hands down the best earth artist of all. During a trip to Illinois to visit family in the winter an ice storm came through town covering everything in glistening sparkling crystals. The weight of the ice was too much for many of the trees to bear causing them to bend and contort, and for the less fortunate trees: break. Though it made for less than favorable driving conditions, if one planned to just sit and stare out the window and appreciates nature's magnificence then it was perfect.

I love ice and the way it can make everything look nice! I was really struck by some of Andy Goldsworthy's work, so I am hoping it will get cold enough around here for me to be able to try some cool ice art in the winter. I posted on one of my blogs pictures of the pond in my yard that froze in 09 while it was still running. It created a very cool piece of art.
